My Implanon Experience!!!

A post a year is good enough.

Hello everyone and yeah it's been strange to start writing again after a few months of hiatus. As i continue my ordinary life with kids growing up at a very fast pace, both of us (husband and I) are struggling for a work life balance as the cost of living are extremely high! Nevertheless the kids are our top priorities!

It's almost towards the end of 2016 and we haven't had any holidays yet.  Pity us. But no worries we had a plan already for our school holidays plus Anniversary Celebration! Yeay!

I got bigger story to tell. Hihiks! I had my Implanon insertion, finally.. on Monday 24 October 2016. I think it's a story worth to share because it may help whoever still undecided or in doubt of choosing the right birth control options. Before Implanon, I chose the Depo Provera shot for almost 2 or 3 years (can't exactly remember). Depo shot needs to be taken once in three months. Upon first consultation, I need to pay RM50, RM20 for consultation and another RM30 for the shot itself. Took my first shot at Klinik An-Nur, Presint 9, Putrajaya. I was getting impatient as days went by because I experienced an incredible amount of weight gain, emotionally instable and the process of taking Depo shot was getting scarier, I opt to stop taking Depo shot and any birth control for almost 2 years.  Alhamdulillah, husband being a very understanding person, I didn't get pregnant during those periods.

I guess, the decision to do an Implanon insertion has been lingering on my mind for quite a while, until I have enough money, and when the time is right, it just happened. The cost for Implanon in Lembaga Penduduk Dan Pembangunan Keluarga Negara (LPPKN) is RM515. RM5 for registration, RM10 for consultation and RM500 for the implant. On the other hand, at private clinic, total cost is as high as RM680. So i chose LPPKN Putrajaya, but please bear in mind, the doctor is available on Monday (ONLY) and you  need to be on your period. It can be done within day 1 to day 5 or 6 of your period. Lucky me, I had my first day period on Wednesday and i straight away call them up to make an appointment. Since, there were still slot available, they've asked me to come on Monday at 9.15 am. I was on my 6th day of period on that day.

On the appointment date, I reached LPPKN at 9.00 am because they reminded me to be there before 9.15am. It is located at level 4 inside the Ministry Of Women, Family And Community Development, Presint 4, Putrajaya. I waited for almost 45 minutes before i was called up to the Doctor's room for the Implanon insertion. . But before that, I met a nurse in another room for some consultation. She asked me questions like my other birth control mechanisms, how many kids that I have, when did I got married, and I also to fill in somewhat like a personal information form with details of myself. The process (Implanon insertion), merely took around 5 minutes, was a very quick and calming process. I felt a little pain because of the anesthetic (the liquid was a bit hot thus it tingles my skin a little bit).

Today is the 4th day of the historical event, there is still a clear bruise on my left arm, a little pain once in a while, but other than that I can move my arm comfortably. Technically it is in a good condition already.  Here are the pictures I took from day one to day 4.

Top Left : Day 1 Top Right : Day 2
Down Left : Day 3 Down Right : Day 4

I think the pain is bearable, for the benefit of 99% chances of not getting pregnant for the next 3 years, and even though it is a bit pricey, it saves me the hassle of Depo shot every 3 months, plus Depo is definitely more painful than Implanon. Well, after this 4 days, I feel okai, with no signs of headache, unnecessary bleeding and emotionally stable (at the moment). So i guess, it fits me perfectly.

Cheers!
